Risky Business

Risky Business is a brand new dance theatre show that will be available for touring to small-scale venues from Spring 2010.

Risky Business combines both childlike charm and adult energy to engage audiences aged from 6-60. A family show, primarily aimed at 7- 14 year old children, Risky Business examines ideas of risk, imagination and playful fun. Set in an urban playground of old tyres, boards of wood, cages and shopping trolleys four characters escape from the day to day into an imaginary world where they play with danger, daring each other to go that bit further...

Technicial Requirements

We need a clear stage: min 8m deep and 10m wide
Black dance floor covered with black dance lino (preferably a sprung floor)
We will use in-house lighting – details will follow
We require a good sound system full range (soundtrack is on Mini Disk or CD) with two monitors on stage.
Two House Technicians available for load-in, set-up and load-out as available
Dressing Rooms *2
Get in from 10 am on performance day for a 7pm show

We Tour

Four dancers + 1 technician/stage manager
2x shopping cages
1 x shopping trolley
30 car tyres
2 x 8’4’mdf boards
No special effects
Dance requires a consistently warm environment please ensure the performance space is adequately heated.

Risky Satellite

A satellite show to tour to smaller venues and schools, approx 20 min long performance developed from the themes and ideas of the main show.

Technicial Requirements

We need a clear stage of min 5m x 5m
Suitable flooring eg Black dance floor

Education & Community Work

We are offering an extensive education program.  The artistic director has over 15 years experience of working with this age group and the company offers highly professional, inspiring workshops for all ages and abilities.

Thematic workshops

The Risky Day

A day long workshop suitable for 7-14 year olds exploring the themes and working with the props.
Could be structured in schools as 2x 1/2 day sessions where there is 2 form entry.
Group size: 30 children (dependant on dance space)

The Risky Performance

Over two or more full days the company will create an inspring performance as a curtain raiser to the main show or to accompany the satellite show.
The creation of a dance show with your children will take from 2 full days of workshops up to a week long residency.

Make Risky Business with us - an Action Research Project.

We will be following a similar action research format as was taken during the pilot phase.  A physical dialogue is established between groups of children and the artists informing the development of the work. Through regular sessions the ideas, choreography and shape of the show are developed with the creativity and input from the children. This is a limited opportunity open to venues interested in forming a partnership with the company to commission the show.
