We are looking for an experienced freelance producer to support maternity cover from at least Mid October 18 to beginning of March 19, on a freelance basis of 1 day a week. Ideally we are looking for someone who has supported independent dance artists or small companies and has an experience of the dance sector.
Mercurial Dance & Mercurial Arts background
Mercurial Dance and sister charity Mercurial Arts, work across the Midlands bringing participants of all ages & backgrounds into active engagement with the arts. The organisations’ work reaches c.4,000 people a year & unites dance with other artforms to offer both ambitious participatory projects & public performances in the heart of some of the region’s most disadvantaged communities.
We create site-specific productions. Our recent work Retold, successfully premiered a 5 night ticketed performance during July 2018 in the Coventry Evening Telegraph Building, with the Belgrade Theatre. Gaining great reviews and good audiences participant numbers, the dance theatre production marks the start of a new chapter for the company. Earlier this year we managed a successful pilot of Ballet at the Bar(re) our new show for Bar and Foyer spaces due to tour May 2019. Whilst our current HLF funded Histories at Hobmoor project is creating an oral history app creating a heritage experience for people to explore the local history in Yardley, Birmingham.
2010-15 our work centred on ‘The Bubble Chamber’- a pop-up arts studio in Coventry which hosted performances & installations including: ‘Hinterland’ a piece, commissioned by Birmingham Hippodrome; ‘Cascades’ an interactive projection piece with Belgrade Theatre & ‘Cascades CODA’ which toured with DanceDigital Festival.
In 2014 we created ‘The Chaotic Liquid Network’ in partnership with mac, Ikon, University of Birmingham & Oasis Academy Hobmoor. This relationship led to arts education work engaging 840 children in over 900 workshops each year. Fair Youth (ACE) in 2015 continued our approach to making work for non- theatre spaces & toured a piece inspired by Shakespeare’s Sonnets, around the region’s libraries. These projects resulted in launching Hobmoor Community Centre (2015) in which we continue to work in on regular basis now accessed by over 1000 people every week & offers 19000 participant experiences per year. Our recently published book ‘Aspire!’ documents our innovative education work & partnership with Oasis.
